View You Tube Video
The seniors at St. Martin de Porres High School made history on Saturday, June 7. They were the first graduating class of this school that opened four years ago providing an afforadable college prep curriculum for students from families of modest means.
All 50 seniors have been accepted at colleges. Follow this link to see where they will attend. Many will be the first in their families to attend. Some are getting full scholarships.
The very first Commencement Ceremony speech of Saint Martin de Porres was given by City Councilman Honorable Joe Cimperman. The Hon. Cimperman told the graduates, “Today the promise of you is fulfilled. Today it’s not just the promise of you, it is you. Thank you for being one of 50 heroes who walk among us.”
Two awards were given to graduating seniors: The St. Martin Award and The Rev. Robert J. Welsh, S.J., Work, Study, Serve, Lead, Pray Award. The St. Martin Award is granted to the graduating senior who best demonstrates the qualities of our patron, St. Martin de Porres. Gary Martin consistently demonstrated the generosity, humility, service, peacemaking and grace of St. Martin. Like St. Martin, he worked hard and made the best of every opportunity, accepting each responsibility with gratitude and a generous heart, giving without counting the cost.
The Rev. Robert J. Welsh, S.J., Award is given to those students who best live our school’s motto- Work, Study, Serve, Lead, Pray – in the spirit of Fr. Welsh. The
winners of this Award were: Dominique Aaron, Kallie Krawczonek, Gary Martin and Samantha Musser.
Saint Martin sports program admitted to OHSAA
One of the goals of Saint Martin de Porres High School was realized when on May 8, 2008, the Board of Control of the Ohio High School Athletic Association admitted Saint Martin de Porres as a full member. Saint Martin's athletics program achieved this status by competing in two varsity sports per season throughout this past school year. The fall sports included volleyball and cross country. This past winter, bowling, boys & girls varsity basketball were the focus. The boys and girls track & field program just completed a successful season this spring. The student athletes and coaches worked very hard to accomplish this goal. We can now look forward to next year being eligible to compete in all sectional tournaments. The senior class worked very hard to make this happen and our sincere thanks goes out to them for all their hard work and sacrifice. Thank you Class of 2008. Also thank you coaches, faculty and staff who helped make this possible.

Saint Martin de Porres High School students "March for Life" in Washington D. C.
Wow, What a trip! On January 22nd, 2008, twelve students and four faculty/staff from Saint Martin de Porres High School observed the 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade by marching for life in our nation's capitol. The group withstood the cold and many miles as they marched with thousands from around the country for one purpose: to support the right to life of the unborn. They chanted, they prayed, and they sang songs like "Lean on Me" as they walked to the Supreme Court. The students were amazed at the sheer numbers of people in D.C., the city itself, and the feeling of being a part of a cause bigger than themselves.
The group rode a chartered "red eye" bus through night along with students from Saint Ignatius High School and arrived to participate in the Youth Mass for Life at the Basillica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception before riding the Metro into Washington and joining the March.
G. R. Kearney Publishes More than a Dream: The Cristo Rey Story
Cristo Rey Jesuit High School never should have opened. Wise and cautious people with lots of experience should have explained to the school's founders, the Chicago
Province Jesuits, that their audacious plan for opening a college preparatory high school for poor students simply wouldn't work. Detractors, who repeatedly pointed out that no school like this had ever succeeded, should've been able to convince them not to even bother trying. Those naysayers, after all, were right. No school like this had succeeded. In fact, no school like this had even been attempted. The Jesuits, though, weren't swayed. They saw a need and believed this unconventional approach to education was their best shot at responding to the need. They were right. The school they started has changed the trajectory of the lives of countless students and sparked a resurgence in inner-city Catholic education in the United States. Their work is inspiring proof that a small group of people can change the world. More than a Dream tells the incredible story of the school they created and how it has changed the lives of four of its students. Read more...
