Anton ’27: Confidence, Connections, and Growth

Anton ‘27 a rising junior at Saint Martin, is a member of the men’s basketball team and entrepreneurship club. He describes Saint Martin as a place where “opportunities are everywhere” and through his connections with the Corporate Work Study team, Anton pursued one of his biggest opportunities yet, a summer internship with the Cleveland Foundation. Anton embraced the internship as a way to expand his leadership beyond the classroom. Through this experience, he not only developed valuable professional skills but also began to see how his interests in entrepreneurship and community engagement could shape his future.

From day one, Anton was all in. Working alongside Ellen Koonce, Coordinator of Building Operations & Guest Services, Anton helped maintain a welcoming environment. Anton assisted with ensuring all operations were running smoothly by restocking the copy rooms, staff lounges, and getting to know employees from different departments. He shared that he immediately felt valued and appreciated, especially when given the opportunity to introduce himself in front of the entire staff. But it was more than just being about tasks, “Ms. Ellen allowed me to be myself and took me under her wing.” He quickly became part of The Foundation's daily rhythm.

Anton’s relationship with the Cleveland Foundation extends well beyond his summer internship. During his time there, he built lasting connections with individuals who share his passion for entrepreneurship, including those who run their own clothing lines. These individuals expressed interest in Anton beyond his time at The Foundation, hoping to keep in touch with him throughout high school and into college, offering him guidance and mentorship along the way. These relationships not only strengthen his networking skills but also open doors to support his own growing business. For Anton, who dreams of blending business and community impact, these relationships were just as valuable as the hands-on experience.

The biggest lesson Anton took away from his internship was that “the way you carry yourself is very important.” He realized that professionalism, confidence, and authenticity can leave a lasting impression and open doors to new opportunities—both now and in the future. Anton is especially grateful to Ellen Koonce for her mentorship and support, which made his internship experience both welcoming and impactful. Looking back, Anton is grateful for his summer that gave him both practical skills as well as an outlook for his future potential.
